Winter health - Stay strong. Get vaccinated.
Help your body fight flu
There are some actions you can take to help yourself stay well in winter. This includes getting your flu vaccination. Flu is far more serious than a bad cold. For those who are more vulnerable, it can significantly increase the risk of developing serious lung and airway infections, such as bronchitis and pneumonia, which can be life-threatening.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has released new information highlighting an unusually early start to the flu season this year, beginning nearly five weeks earlier than last year. The percentage of positive flu tests has significantly increased, with the largest rise among school-aged children.
This early surge makes it especially important that everyone eligible for the free NHS flu vaccine receives it as soon as possible to help reduce transmission and protect vulnerable groups. For further advice on eligibility and how to book winter vaccination please see the NHS website.
If you are not eligible for the free NHS flu vaccination it is still important to get one to protect you and your family, as well as those who are unable to have the vaccine in our communities. These can be purchased at the majority of community pharmacies.
