Weight management services in West Sussex

If you are looking to lose weight there are a number of services available in West Sussex.

Services available to all

  • Better Health

The free NHS Weight Loss Plan app on the Better Health website can help you start healthier eating habits, be more active, and start losing weight. The plan is broken down into 12 weeks .. take it a week at a time. 

To work out your Body Mass Index (BMI), use the BMI calculator on the NHS website.

Services available to anyone who is overweight

The following services are available to anyone who is overweight (classified as having a BMI of over 25 or over 23 for BAME groups).

  • West Sussex Wellbeing

Trained advisors can offer tailored advice, support and motivational interviewing via the telephone. Each hub runs their own 12 week Weight Management Course and is suitable for people living in the relevant borough/district. These courses are either run face-to-face or virtually, depending on the need of the client or current Covid-19 guidelines. Each hub will be able to confirm at the time of referral.

  • National Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP)

Eligibility: Over 18, with a pre-diabetic blood glucose of HbA1c 42-47 mm/mol (consult your health care professional if unsure).

NDPP is a 13 week national programme delivered locally by Xyla Health & Wellbeing. Those referred to the service will receive tailored, personalised support to reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes including education on healthy eating and lifestyle, help to manage weight and physical exercise programmes, all of which together have been proven to reduce the risk of developing the disease.   • NHS Digital Weight Management Programme

A 12 week online behavioural and lifestyle programme.


    • 18 or over
    • Have a BMI greater than 30 or 27.5 for people from Black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds
    • You must also have diabetes, high blood pressure, or both.
    • The programme is only available to people with a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access.
