Do you know your heart age? Adults across the country are being encouraged to take a few minutes out of their day to get to know their heart age by taking a free online, ‘Heart Age Test’, which asks physical and lifestyle related information, as well as blood pressure and cholesterol, and determines if someone’s heart is at a higher age than their actual age.
Take the Heart Age Test and get advice on how to manage your risk.
Having a heart age older than your chronological age means that you are at a higher risk of having a heart attack or stroke, which are the two main forms of cardiovascular disease, which is one of the leading causes of death in the country. It is estimated that over 50 deaths a day from these conditions could be prevented if people had a better understanding of their heart health.
You could also consider having a free NHS Health Check. Most adults aged between 40 and 74-years-old are entitled to a free health check, as long as they have not had a health check in the past five years or do not have an existing condition (such as stroke, coronary heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or kidney disease). The checks, which are available across the county at participating GP surgeries, pharmacies and community clinics, take around 30 minutes and include a cholesterol test and blood pressure check. They also discuss family history and lifestyle factors.
